Can a chiropractor adjust every bone in my body?

Chiropractors recognise that your body has limited healing capacity at any given time, therefore adjustments are more effective when solely focused on your weakest areas rather than dividing the healing efforts across multiple joints.

How many chiropractic adjustments will I need?

The recommended number of adjustments varies from one individual to another along with their goals. It is important to understand that your body requires time to heal, and each adjustment helps build upon the last. Some cases require ongoing following the initial phase, but as you progress and your spine begins to stabilise, your chiropractor will set you up with a less frequent schedule.

What is the cracking sound common in Chiropractic adjustments?

The joints within your spine are lined with a liquid called ‘synovial fluid’. Pressure changes during some adjusting techniques cause the fluid and gas in the joint to shift which produces a sound, just like opening a bottle of champagne or can of pop

What is an adjustment?

Chiropractic adjustments involve a quick specific movement that stimulate your nervous system to correct the subluxation and induce healing effects within your body, meaning the healing process continues for hours after you have left the clinic. There are many types of adjustment, some methods require only a pair of hands and others require the utilisation of gravity, your chiropractor will tailor your bespoke adjustment to suit your personal needs.

What is a Subluxation?

A Subluxation is improper motion or positioning of a spinal joint, which can lead to the misfiring of nerves, disrupting the communication pathways between your brain and the body.

Is everyone adjusted the same way?

No, every care plan and adjustment our chiropractors offer is specifically tailored to your condition, needs and individual goals.

Is Chiropractic care safe?

Yes, chiropractic is safe. Statistically, adjustments are around 100 times safer than only taking over the counter pain relief and they may help you avoid drugs are unnecessary surgeries. A New Zealand government-funded study concluded chiropractic treatment to be “incredibly safe”, which combined with the excellent track record of chiropractic leads to insurance premiums significantly lower than those of our medical counterparts.

I have osteoporosis, is chiropractic care safe for me?

Yes, when creating your care plan your chiropractor considers any underlying conditions. There are many ways to adjust the spine so if you have low bone density your chiropractor will use a gentler approach suited to your bone structure.

How long will I need chiropractic care for?

Once you are feeling better and your spine has regained the strength and stability it needs, you will decide how you want to move forward, our job is to offer the very best care possible and yours to decide how much of it you want. Most individuals choose to continue with a form of maintenance or supportive care, these adjustments are to help support your body throughout the final stages of healing and may also help to detect and resolve new issues before you feel their effects.

Can I adjust myself?

No, even chiropractors need another chiropractor to adjust them, and adjustments are extremely specific, taking many years to master. Although you may be able to crack and pop your joints, this is not an adjustment and self-manipulation can result in joint injuries over time because only the most mobile joints will crack in this manner leading to the weakening of surrounding muscles and a laxity of the ligaments.

How long until I feel better?

How fast you heal is affected by many factors; the chronicity of the problem, getting adequate rest, nutrition and exercise and keeping to your schedule. Some experience rapid relief, while others discover it can take many weeks to months. Your chiropractor will consider how you are feeling and how your body is functioning because structure dictates function and this ultimately affects how fast you respond to care.

How does Chiropractic care work?

You are a self-healing, self-regulating organism controlled by your nervous system. Millions of instructions from your brain flow down your spinal cord to every organ, tissue and cell within your body and signals are sent back to your brain confirming everything is working correctly. Stiff or immobile joints, known as subluxations, can interfere with your body’s ability to communicate with your brain, which if left unaddressed can lead to swelling and irritation of the surrounding soft tissues.

How do I know if I have a subluxation?

The results of a thorough examination will identify whether any subluxations are present within your nervous system. As only 10-15% of your nerves tell your brain how you feel, the rest control your muscles and organs, subluxations can be present with no warning signs or symptoms so you may not be aware of them.

Do I have a Slipped Disc or Pinched Nerve?

As discs are situated between two bones, they cannot technically slip out of place however they can bulge, tear, and herniate or dry out and thin due to dehydration. As opposed to being pinched, nerves are often irritated due to local inflammation caused by a subluxation, which distorts the nerve’s ability to send information between your body and brain and can cause pain and affect the surrounding soft tissues and organs.

Can subluxations correct on their own?

Your body can self-correct subluxations as you bend, stretch and sleep but when subluxations don’t resolve themselves, you will need to consult a chiropractor.

Can I have Chiropractic care after surgery?

Yes, rest assured your chiropractor will avoid the surgically modified area of your spine. Surgery often causes instability around the involved level; these areas will likely be the focus of your care.

Will I receive any medication for my pain?

No, chiropractors rely on your body’s ability to heal itself. In some cases, you may be advised to use ice to manage painful symptoms during your initial phase of care because when applied appropriately, ice can have an analgesic effect without the potential side effects of medication.
